PE Provision

Our school vision for PE and Sport is:

"To provide opportunities for children to enjoy and experience daily physical activity, high quality PE lessons and competitive school sport. We believe that a whole school attitude towards physical activity and education promotes healthy lifestyles, physical fitness and emotional well-being which assists pupils in reaching their learning potential."

Children at St. Teresa's participate in a wide range of sporting activities through a varied and exciting PE curriculum.  We are very proud of our extensive range of after school clubs and our many sporting successes.

The PE curriculum is delivered by teachers, specialist PE teachers and Sports Coaches from Bee Active. All lesson are designed to be incredibly fun whilst aiding children’s physical development and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

Early Years

The early years programme of study complements the EYFS guidelines and is designed to improve children’s agility, balance and coordination in an incredibly fun environment. Sessions are brought to life by using a wide range of resources and media, to ensure children are enthused by physical activity and engaged in wider learning.

Key Stage 1

Children are given the opportunity to continue their physical development in a range of increasingly challenging and competitive situations. The activities still relate to wider themes across the national curriculum, complementing the children’s development in agility, balance, coordination and dance. Bee Active regularly hold activities for the local community at weekends and during the school holidays. For more information on any of the services they provide visit www.beeactive.co.uk

Key Stage 2

Key skills acquired in Key Stage 1 continue to be developed through a combination of gymnastics, dance, invasion games and swimming lessons.

Lessons are delivered by specialist PE teachers; Mr. Holloway and Stoke City Community Trust.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

There are many opportunities for children to participate in after school clubs with a sporting focus:

Bee Active, cross-country, football, athletics, netball, basketball, handball and cricket.

PE Premium Funding at St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School

All primary schools receive an additional yearly PE Premium grant from the Government. This extra funding is intended to heighten the effectiveness of PE provision in schools, and it is at the school’s discretion as to how the additional funding is spent.

Developing the ‘whole’ child

At Teresa’s, as well as promoting physical activity and developing children’s sporting skills, we focus on developing the ‘whole’ child. PE lessons are unique environments where children can feel challenged physically, but also mentally and socially. At St Teresa’s we believe in our children being the best they can be and to do this, we understand the importance of developing their social and emotional skills. Please see below the skills that we focus on and how our children can assess how they are becoming the best versions of themselves:

Leading a healthy lifestyle

At St Teresa’s, we value the importance of leading an active, healthy lifestyle and feel that it is our responsibility to instil this into our pupils at an early age. It is recommended that children should be active for 60 minutes a day, with at least 30 of those minutes being at school. We take pride in ensuring that this happens using various approaches: sports leaders delivering lunch activities; playground equipment being utilised at play times; active brain breaks being implemented in the classroom; a range of extra-curricular clubs; and ample PE lessons throughout the week. We do our very best to ensure children are as active as they can be at school but it is also parents’ responsibilities to ensure they do their best to keep their child active. Below are some ideas that we promote to our children and parents to keep each other active:
