History and Geography

At our school, History sparks curiosity and deepens children’s understanding of the past, helping them make sense of the present. We aim to develop their historical knowledge, understanding, and skills through engaging and meaningful learning experiences. Children are encouraged to think critically and analytically, ask questions, and form their own interpretations of historical events and evidence. We support them in building a secure understanding of chronology, both within the British Isles and the wider world. Through studying diverse people, places, and events, pupils develop a strong sense of identity and a lasting interest in the richness and relevance of history.

At St Teresa’s, Geography develops children’s understanding of the world by exploring key physical and human processes that shape our planet. We provide rich opportunities for geographical enquiry, encouraging children to investigate, question, and express their views about people, places, and environments both locally and globally. Pupils learn to interpret and use a range of geographical sources, such as maps, globes, diagrams, aerial photographs, and digital technologies. They explore how places change over time and learn to collect, analyse, and evaluate evidence. Through progressive fieldwork and classroom experiences, we foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of Geography.
